Najafgarh to get hockey stadium soon

South Delhi Municipal Corporation [SDMC] has decided to construct a world-class hockey stadium on 10 acres of land in Najafgarh area.

According to the officers of the corporation, the youths of the village Ghumman Kheda, where the stadium is being planned, have shown their presence in national team and the youths of the village are more interested in hockey than any other game.

‘The stadium will provide opportunity to village youths to make a carreer in hockey and promote sport spirit among the young generation,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, mentioning wrestler Sushil Kumar, who hails from Najafgarh.

‘The youths are much inspired from wrestler Sushil Kumar and have been demanding a hockey stadium,’ added Gehlot, chairman of the standing committee of South Delhi Municipal Corporation [SDMC].

He was on a visit of around a dozen villages in the area on Monday morning, with SDMC commissioner Manish Gupta and senior officers of the corporation.

Gehlot also announced to construct an amusement park, restroom and banquet hall for villagers on 140 acre of land in Ghumman Kheda village. He announced to allocate Rs 80 lakh for the development of each village in the area, and directed the officers to make a project report of each village.

Gehlot visited Ghumman Kheda, Shikarpur, Jhatikara, Daulatpur, Padwala Kalan, Padwala Khurd, and Chabla villages.
