Nadia puja pandal models Mamata as Goddess Durga
In a unique initiative, a puja committee from Nadia has come up with the idea of showcasing a model of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as Durga idol.
The Durga like idol of the Chief Minister will attract huge number of visitors from across the state, the puja organizers believe. The puja pandal will depict all the development works she has done during her tenure as the Chief Minister.
The Prantik Club in Chakdah in Nadia conceptualized their puja theme showing the Chief Minister as mother goddess. The puja committee has already drawn the attention of enthusiasts who started congregating in the area to have a glimpse of the unique puja pandal.
The idol which has been inspired by the Chief Minister is clad in white-and-blue-border sari and slippers. The 10-hand fibreglass idol shows the various government schemes she introduced in the past five years. The 10 hands of goddess Durga are attached separately to Banerjee’s statue standing with folded hands.
The idol has been erected in the backdrop of the statue which has been designed as a map of Bengal, marking out all the 25 districts of the state. All the development works in the hilly regions of Darjeeling to the advancement in Rajarhat’s New Town, and other social schemes like Kanyashree have found representation in the puja pandal.
The 5.5ft model of Banerjee has been inaugurated on Tuesday. The model has been prepared by artist Subir Pal for over a period of three months. He spent around Rs 4 lakh to make this idol which is made of fiber glass. There will a miniature of jungle-mahal inside the puja pandal. The lives of people in the hilly areas have also been depicted at the puja pandal.
The model of the Chief Minister Banerjee has been shown as holding various projects in her hands including the Sabuj Sathi, Kanyshress and the campaigns like safe drive, save life, which has been taken up by the present government to check road accidents throughout the state.
