Nabha jailbreak: Three more land in police net, one still at large

The man who opened fire in the infamous Nabha Jail escape in Punjab by snatching the Self Loading Rifle of the guard and giving cover fire to the escaping inmates has been caught by Delhi Police Special Cell and Punjab CIA from Lajpat Nagar. Chatanpreet Singh was caught along with two others Harjot and Ranjeet Singh Kalkat who harboured them in Delhi.

“Chanpreet Singh, alias Channa, and Harjot, alias Jot, admitted that they have participated and played active roles in getting six jail inmates to escape from Nabha Jail, Punjab. After the escape, they fled to Chandigarh and remained there for a night. On coming to know that Palwinder Singh, alias Penda, one of their accomplice in jail break was caught by the UP police in Shamli, the same day, they shifted to Delhi and took shelter in the area of Lajpat Nagar,” said P S Kushwaha DCP Special Cell.

According to sources, the teams got specific input about the movements of two criminals involved in jail break and their harbourer Ranjeet Singh Kalkat of Lajpat Nagar, while they were planning to leave Delhi to a safer shelter in Punjab. 

In the late evening, the abovesaid three persons were intercepted at Lajpat Nagar- IV, near Moolchand flyover, on a secret input. As soon as the police teams surrounded them, they whipped out their loaded pistols but were overpowered by the teams before they could open fire.

Three sophisticated semi--automatic pistols along with 17 live cartridges have been recovered from their possession.

However, while Harminder Singh Mintoo has been caught from Nizamuddin Railway station after he tried to flee to Goa via Mumbai, his accomplice Kashmir Singh is still at large.
