Mystery shroud’s drowned youth’s death

Mystery shrouds the death of a youth whose body was found near Khasbati ghat situated on the banks of Hooghly river at Halisahar in North 24 Parganas. The incident occurred on Saturday night.

It was learnt that the victim who has been identified as Arijit Das, was talking to his girlfriend and some common friends were standing on the ghat. The family members of the victim received the news that Arijit drowned in the river. When his family members rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident, they saw that his body was lying on staircase of the ghat. They took him to Kanchrapara railway hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

On Sunday, when the victim’s father asked his victim’s girlfriend about the incident, he found incongruity in her statement. As a result of this, he finally lodged a complaint in Bijpur police station. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination. His family members alleged that this does not seem like a natural death. The victim’s friends who were there on the spot of the incident told the local people that Arijit died after falling in the river. On the basis of the complaint, police started a detailed probe into the incident. They were interrogating the friends of the victim.
