Music for every moment

Music lovers in the city are all set to get a taste of Sufi rock, soft rock and popular music this weekend. Ehsaas, a city band that was formed in early 2009 is gearing up to enthral music lovers.

The band, which blends Western and Indian musical influences, has performed with the Kolkata Knight Riders team and at the Delhi International Arts Festival 2011.

‘I was a solo artist for eight years when I decided to form a band. A band is always more powerful,’ says Suryaveer Hooja, lead vocalist and co-founder of Ehsaas.

Right now, the band comprises Varun Ahuja on bass guitars and back vocals, Waseem Ahmed on electric and acoustic guitars, Gaurav Singh [lead guitars and back vocals], Harshit Jain [keyboards and electronica] and Nishant Rastogi on drums and percussion.

Their music is youthful. ‘It gives the young the energy they are familiar with. The older generations listen to us for the energy and vigour that it brings,’ says Ahuja.

‘Usually the drummer maintains the tempo of the music but when I play for Ehsaas I also set the melody,’ says Rastogi, the drummer.

The band has started recording new songs for an album which will be released sometime this year. ‘We will be playing a few songs that we have composed recently. We will also play covers and a few songs from the movies of Rajesh Khanna as a tribute. The songs will be influenced by our style,’ adds Suryaveer.

The members of Ehsaas are so fond of music that they recently composed a new song when they were stuck at the airport. ‘While we were coming back after a performance from Indore, we got stuck at the airport for seven hours. We used that time to compose a new song called Hum Kitne Madhhosh hain. It was a very good experience,’ says Ahuja.

So keep the music loud.
