Murder witness killing: 2 arrested

A day after a murder case witness was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mahindra Park, police have claimed to have arrested two people involved in the incident, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Chotu (26) and Bhola (20), who were arrested on Monday night itself. The police are currently interrogating the duo who confessed to their crimes.

The deceased, Jeet, was the prime witness in the murder case of his friend, Vijay, who was beaten to death by some locals in the month of July. After his friend’s death, he was the complainant in the case.

Jeet had started receiving threat calls asking him to take back the case. Police sources had also informed this newspaper that he was constantly harassed by some people in the locality who wanted him to withdraw the case. In Vinay’s case, Sandeep and Sadat’s name had cropped up. A total of four people were arrested but the duo is on a run. Sources have said that Sandeep and Sadat were the ones issuing the death threats to Jeet.

Chotu and Bhola, however, may not be connected with the murder of his friend and it has still not been established as to who are the prime suspects in Vijay’s case. “They are not involved in the murder which took place in July. But we are questioning them to verify their claims. We have identified four main accused who were found to be involved in Jeet’s murder,” said a senior police official. The four accused have been identified as Sandeep, Sadat, Ajay and Jaipal. “We have formed several raiding teams and are conducted raids in several parts of the city. The accused will soon be caught,” said DCP, (North-west), Milind Dumbre.
