Munde’s death: Court takes cognisance of CBI’s charge sheet

A local court on Friday took cognisance of CBI’s charge sheet filed against a taxi driver, who was driving a car which collided with the then Union Minister Gopinath Munde’s vehicle leading to his death here in June this year, and summoned the accused for January 14.

“Accused (Gurvinder Singh) is stated to be on court bail but not present on Friday. Heard and record perused. From the material on record, the cognisance of offence under sections 279 (rash driving)/304 A (causing death by rash and negligent act) under IPC is taken. Issue summons to the accused for January 14, 2015,” Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal said. Singh, who was arrested by Delhi Police in connection with the case, was granted bail by a court on June 3. CBI, in its charge sheet, has alleged that Singh was driving an Indica car on June 3 this year in a rash and negligent manner and despite having a better “frontal line of vision”, he failed to hear the honk by the driver of Munde’s car.
