Multiple accidents in city kill 2, injure 3

Two persons were killed while three others were injured in four separate road accidents in the state on Monday.

The first incident occurred at Hastings crossing around 9 am when a Kakurgachi bound bus broke the signal and hit a scooter. 

Local people have alleged that bus driver did not stop the vehicle after the incident. The local residents took the injured Subhrangshu Sarkar to the SSKM Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Police said that Sarkar (45), a resident of Lake Gardens area was an employee of a private company. The victim was riding his scooter when the bus hit him from behind. He received severe injuries on his head and other parts of his body.

Agitated mob stopped the vehicle few yards from the place of the accident. They tried to set the bus on fire. The mob ransacked the bus before the police reached the spot to control the situation. 

The incident lead to huge traffic jam in the area. The driver of the bus and the conductor managed to flee from the spot after the accident.

In another incident, Shivshankar Mondal (22), a college student was riding a motorcycle without a helmet with two more in the pillion. The incident occurred at Dabu area under Canning police station in South 24-Parganas. 

Police suspect that they lost control over the bike and met with an accident. Mondal received severe injuries in the accident and died after being rushed to a hospital. Two others were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police have started a probe.

Three more persons were injured in two other accidents at Salt Lake and Mandarmani in East Midnapore. A person was injured when a car he was travelling in side turned after hitting a bolder on the sea beach. 

There were three passengers in the vehicle.

In the other incident, a couple who were riding on a bicycle were severely injured when a speeding auto-rickshaw hit them near Karunamoyee on Monday evening.

The local people told the police that the driver of the auto was in an inebriated state when the accident took place. The police reached the spot and arrested the accused driver. The condition of the couple is stated to be serious.
