Mullickbazar murder: One held

Police arrested a person on Sunday in connection with the murder of a businessman at Mullick Bazar.
55-year-old Mohammad Nur was shot dead in the wee hours on Saturday, a few yards away from his house at the crossing of Mullick Bazar.

Police said the accused Shamim Akhtar, alias Kelo was one of the business partners of the victim. Nur’s family members had lodged a complaint with the police against Kelo and another partner Shafique.

Police had picked up Kelo from one of his hideout a few hours after the incident and took him to police station for interrogation. He was arrested after the police found discrepancies in his statement.
Sources said that Kelo had lent Rs 1 lakh to someone in the locality. Later, he started claiming that he had given Rs 3 lakh to the person and started putting pressure to return the same amount as early as possible.

Nur had intervened in this matter and slapped Kelo in front of everyone for harassing a person unnecessarily by making a false claim. It led to all trouble.

Police suspect that Kelo murdered Nut in a bid to take revenge. Police also came to know that there had been a long standing dispute between them over their business and they often used to get engaged into scuffles. But no one ever imagined that Nur would get killed after being called out of his house. Police have also interrogated Shafique and they would question him again.

Some more persons those were involved in the business of Nur will also be questioned. A person named Salauddin is also suspected to be involved in the incident.

Kelo was remanded in the custody of the police when produced before the court on Sunday afternoon. The family members of the victim demanded maximum punishment of the accused.
The police have also initiated a probe to find out that how the accused had got hold of the gun. The police would arrest the person from whom he had bought the fire arms.
