Mulayam to fight from Azamgarh and Mainpuri

Earlier, Yadav was to contest from only Mainpuri seat from which he is the sitting member.

SP general Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav in a statement said here on Tuesday said that the decision to field Mulayam Singh  Yadav from Azamgarh too on the demand of the leaders. ‘After meetings with leaders it has been decided that Neta ji will contest from Azamgarh as well as in Mainpuri,’ he said.

Meanwhile, party leaders say that the candidature of Mulayam from Azamgarh will boost the party’s prospect in east UP after Narendra Modi announced his candidature from Varanasi.

This would be for the first time Mulayam will contest from two seats.

In the 2009 elections, Akhilesh Yadav contested from Kannauj and Ferozabad seats. But he left the Ferozabad seat from where his wife Dimple Yadav lost to Congress Raj Babbar in the by-elections.
East UP had 32 Lok Sabha seats in which presently SP and BSP has 10 members while BJP has 8 and the Congress 4.

SP spokesperson and UP minister Rajendra Choudhury said that Mulayam Singh Yadav’s contesting from Azamgarh would counter the communal attitude of the BJP and will strengthen the secularism.
‘Now the entire 32 seats of east UP is in the grip of SP after this decision’ ,he claimed.
