MS Dhoni guilty of corrupt conduct, claims lawyer in Mudgal case

Salve also said that: ‘Dhoni is an employee of India Cements and that leads to a conflict of interest.’

The prosecution has also called for CSK to be suspended in the light of the allegations against Dhoni, which would be a huge blow for this season’s IPL if that were to happen. While Srinivasan’s defense was that Meiyappan was not the team principal but just a cricket enthusiast, the Mudgal committee demolished that argument by finding found conclusive evidence to state Meiyappan was be the de facto head of CSK.

According to Salve, Dhoni blatantly lied before the inquiry committee saying that Meiyappan – BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s son-in-law – was a ‘mere enthusiast’ when in fact he was an official of the Chennai franchise in the IPL.

The Petitioner’s lawyer also revealed that it was really ‘hard to believe’ that the Chennai Super Kings captain didn’t know Meiyappan’s role in the team.

Though Salve admires MS Dhoni’s skills on the cricket field, he revealed that the alleged cover up to save Meiyappan is corruption as defined in the relevant regulations.

Salve expressed his views on Twitter ‘I have admired Dhoni’s skills on the field. However possibly by error of judgment he not only took a job as Vice President in Ind Cement but he appeared before Mudgal comm (with Srini) and asserted that meiyapan had no connection with CSK. A cover up to save M is corruption as defined in the relevant regulations. That was my submission in the SC. Also that I can’t believe that capt of CSK didn’t know M’s role.’

Earlier in the day, the panel of judges of the SC also said the CSK and the Rajasthan Royals – the two teams at the centre of an ongoing probe into illegal betting and match-fixing – should be barred from the next edition of the IPL beginning next month.
