Mohun Bagan footballer harassed in Bally

A section of local people allegedly harassed former player of Mohun Bagan football team Satyabrata Bhowmick over a dispute of constructing a road in front of his house. The incident took place in Bally on Sunday morning. The former footballer lodged a complaint with Nishchinda police station in this connection. 

 Police said that there was a misunderstanding between the footballer and some of his neighbours over construction of the road. Satyabrata’s elder brother Subrata Bhowmick found a youth started work to bring down a portion of the boundary wall of their house for road construction. The youth told the footballer’s brother that he has an order to execute the work when the latter asked that why he was bringing down the wall. This led to an altercation and the youth left the place. Later, around 100 people gathered outside their house and allegedly harassed him. He contacted Satyabrata. It was alleged that Satyabrata was also harassed when he reached the spot. Some of his neighbours had gheraoed him for around three hours.

It is learnt that the former footballer had several meetings with the local people in connection with the construction of the road. The situation turned worse when a youth initiated the work to bring down the boundary wall.  Satyabrata had contacted the local MP and narrated the entire incident. It is learnt that the MP has assured to look into the matter.
