‘Modi should make SIT constituted by AAP functional’

‘Justice Nanavati had admitted that 241 cases of rioting were closed by the Delhi Police without trail in courts but, unfortunately, it recommended reopening of only four cases,’ said Phoolka. He further added SIT constituted by AAP government had complete jurisdiction to open and re-investigate all 241 cases besides registering fresh cases on the basis of complaints of relatives of the deceased families.

The Kejriwal-led Delhi government had constituted SIT on 29 January, to investigate registered cases, reinvestigate closed cases and register fresh cases in 1984 Anti-Sikh riots in Delhi which followed the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi. The AAP government had also suggested names of three IPS officers from outside Delhi for the SIT but as the matter required approval of the Centre it was sent to LG.
