Modi meets ailing Swami Atmasthananda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called on Swami Atmasthananda, president of Ramakrishna Math and Mission at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan.

The 97-year-old ailing monk is receiving treatment in a hospital for more than a year.

He had gone to Belur Math for a day to attend a special function held to give sanyasa to the bramhacharins on Friday night.

The Prime Minister came to the hospital straight from the airport at around 1.40 pm and spent 15 minute with Swami.

Modi came in contact with Atmasthananda in 1966, when he was heading the Rajkot centre of RKM.

He then expressed his desire to join the Ramakrishna Order.

The monk asked Modi to dedicate his life to serve the country. Since then Modi has great respect for Atmasthananda.

Modi often visited him at the Rajkot centre.
