Modi meets Advani, only to disagree

Facing all-round criticism for factionalism, the BJP parliamentary board on Thursday tried to sing the unity tune, but in vain. This was the first parliamentary board meeting attended by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and party veteran Lal Krishna Advani after the latter had resigned over Modi’s elevation as the chairman of the campaign committee of the party.

While Modi advocated the need for increasing the number of seats of the party and working towards that goal, Advani said the BJP should concentrate on increasing its number of allies. The senior party leader was of the opinion that one of the major reasons for the party’s debacle in 2004 and after was the dwindling support of allies.
