Modi is a man of steel, determined soul: Sorcar

People have seen him mesmerising the audience with his magic. PC Sorcar Junior has done it for years by simply waving his wand. When he declared his decision to fight the 2014 Lok Sabha election on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Barasat constituency, in the outskirts of Kolkata, West Bengal in North 24 Parganas district, it was a shock for his admirers, as Sorcar has always maintained a non-communal stance, vociferously so, both on and off stage. 

Sorcar, a doctorate in psychology, is a great charmer and is considered one of the greatest magicians in the world.

Recently, this world famous Magician P C Sorcar, (Prodip Chandra Sorcar), had been slapped a showcause notice by the Election Commission for making derogatory comments against state chief minister Mamata Banerjee and his Trinamool Congress rival Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

Without naming the chief minister, Sorcar had said while campaigning, ‘She says those who have raped, they are naughty boys. I ask her, if she is raped. What will she do?’

When asked about his comments, Sorcar said, ‘My heart cries for such people, but if I have done something wrong, I will rectify it.’

On asking him what made him join the fray, the magician says, ‘Early this year, the BJP invited me to a rally in Kolkata. There, the party leaders asked me to sit on the dais and I felt honored. I was floored by the speeches delivered by the national president of the BJP’s minority morcha Abdul 

Rasheed Ansari and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.’ 

‘My notion about the party stood on its head. He (Narendra Modi) is a man of steel, a determined soul. Now that he has put his mind to the mission, I don’t think no power on earth can counter him,’ adds the magician. 

Is he going to use his magic wand to woo voters?.....Sorcar says no. ‘Magic is a great art. It is entertainment. But if  I go and show tricks to people, show illusions that will be a cheap thing to do.’ 

‘People’s man’ PC Sorcar Junior says by a series of magical coincidences, he is fighting the elections and claims to do full justice if elected. 

Sorcar a great orator is likely to hypnotise the audience while communicating with his audience. But it is time to see if he can convert his popularity into votes and there his hypnotic power will be tested. 

‘PC Sorcar Junior is a celebrity and world famous magician. His admirers are many cutting across all political lines of thoughts. He can certainly create a magic in his new role in otherwise politically divided West Bengal. BJP can certainly pin hope on him to deliver,’ said Aditi Ghosh, a resident of Barasat. 

Sorcar said that he was attracted by Modi’s promise of an interest waiver or a temporary moratorium on the huge debt the Trinamool Congress government was burdened with, in West Bengal a baggage the Congress was not willing to lighten.

When asked about the Gujarat riots, Sorcar said, ‘I believe in the Supreme Court and in the clean chit given to Modi.’ According to Sorcar, corruption can be checked if national integration is strengthened and a sense of belonging to India heightened.

Among his major feats, Sorcar, who heads the magic troupe Indrajal, caused the Taj Mahal to ‘vanish’ for a few minutes, momentarily wiped off Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial from public view during the city’s 300th anniversary and made an entire 10-bogey passenger train disappear at Burdwan station in front of a huge crowd and several high court judges.
