Modi gets Rajnath praise, not endorsement

The annotation of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP will have to wait. Though Modi was praised highly by BJP president Rajnath Singh at the party’s national executive on Wednesday, Singh stopped short of declaring him as the leader of the party’s campaign in the 2014 general elections.

‘We are very proud of the leadership of Narendra Modi and he was complimented by the party president because of his good performance in the assembly elections, but who will be our prime ministerial candidate for the general elections will be decided by the parliamentary board of the party,’ said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Gujarat chief minister was also felicitated by the party president for being the first chief minister from the BJP to win three consecutive elections in the country.

Singh also lauded the high growth achieved by Modi in Gujarat and said this has even been recognised by the European Union (EU) despite several campaigns against the Gujarat chief minister.
