Modi comes to Delhi

Call it hunkar (roar) or shankhnaad rally, the fact remains that people gave their full mandate to ‘Ab ki bar Modi Sarkar’ ending the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty rule in Indian politics after several years of ‘wasted opportunities’.

Even ‘Sarkar’ Modi could not hold himself back from being a part of the country’s jubilation as he reached Delhi on Saturday. He leaned out of his car and flashed out the victory sign. In a crisp kurta-pyjama, with a blue half sleeved-coat, Modi smiled and waved to his jubilant fans.
Around 12.30 pm, Modi reached BJP headquarters where he was greeted with a warm hug by party president Rajnath Singh and other party leaders. Later, party veteran LK Advani, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj reached the office and were seen exchanging pleasantries in the midst of a deafening roar of Modi slogans. Supporters showered him with rose petals and before he proceeded for the parliamentary board meeting, Modi thanked the people of Delhi for giving their full support.

Since morning, NSG commandos were seen sanitising the party office expecting a massive crowd. There was covert security rings around Modi and few were allowed near to him. After the BJP parliamentary board meet, party president and Modi addressed the media and said the next meeting would be on 20 May when Modi would ‘formally’ be elected the prime minister.

‘I would like to thank the people of India for having trust on us. I would also like to thank the media for their support and offer my apologies to those who did not get an opportunity for an interview. You (the media) are my own and there will be more interactions,’ Modi said in a press conference.

The outgoing prime minister Manmohan Singh resigned on Saturday and wished the incoming government success. ‘I am confident about the future of India,’ Singh said.
Later in the afternoon, Modi along with other party leaders left for Varanasi and performed aarti. He sought blessing from Shiva for taking up the challenges of running the country and steering it towards prosperity.
