Mob roughs up woman trying to kidnap infant from hospital in Kalna

A mob beat up a woman alleging her to be a child-lifter and has been operating at Kalna sub-divisional hospital for quite sometimes.

Relatives of the patients on Saturday morning caught the accused woman Mouri Mondal who they claimed was caught red-handed while stealing a newborn baby from the hospital.

People became infuriated and beat up the woman who was later handed over to the police. Another woman was held in this connection so far.

The patients’ relatives who witnessed the incident said that one Tusi Haldar had given birth to a baby boy two days ago.

On Saturday morning, when the mother went to the bathroom by keeping the baby on the bed, the accused had picked up the baby wrapping him up with a towel and was trying to flee the spot. Some of the patients and their relatives noticed the incident and started shouting.

This had prompted the hospital employees to enter into the room and they found the baby in her hands.

After the incident, the people became agitated and started beating up the woman. The victim was injured in the incident. Police said that the accused has confessed her crime. She also told the police that she had earlier stolen a baby from the hospital. Police are interrogating the accused to know if she was a part of the international trafficking racket that has been busted in the state recently by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

She also told the police that another woman was also involved in the incident. The other woman used to stand outside the hospital room as a guard to assist the arrested woman.

After the incident the hospital authorities lodged a complaint in the local police station on the basis of which police have started a case.
