Mob ransack quack’s rural health centre after patient dies

A mob ransacked a rural health centre at Nadia district’s Mobarakpur area. They even beat up the quack, who runs that health centre. Later police team rescued the man and he was taken to the police station.

The police said, Nityaranjan Biswas, a middle aged man was running the health centre for a long time. A local youth, Indrajit Biswas had gone to him for treatment with high fever. Nityaranjan started the diagnosis and reportedly gave him some medicine. But the patient died on Tuesday night.

The family members of Indrajit, along with villagers, gheraod the quack. They demanded the compensation which Nityaranjan could not afford to give them. The villagers started a ruckus over there. Some of them beat the quack severely and he was fell on the ground. Police rescued him in an unconscious state and took him to a hospital before taking him to the police station.

“We have arrested the quack. But an investigation has been initiated. We will arrest those people who beat up the quack as well,” said a police person.

Soon after the incident, the people who conducted the rampage escaped from the area. A police team along with gram panchayat members has started searching for those accused people.

“We have started a campaign against the quacks from the gram panchayat. We generally campaign so that people do not go to the quacks; instead people should go to the district and sub divisional hospitals. Our government has made some outstanding infrastructure in those hospitals. But people do not concentrate on those campaigns.”

“In this case, a quack is accused. But the people who have beaten him up so severally are also the accused. I have requested the police to take strict action against those people as well,” said Madhu Mondal, the local gram panchayat pradhan.
