Mob ransack private nursing home

A mob went violent ransacking a portion of a private nursing home at Budge Budge following the death of a patient.

The victim's family members alleged that the patient was not given proper treatment and had died due to negligence of the private hospital.

The nursing home authorities have lodged a complaint with the police. The police are yet to arrest anybody in this connection.

Relatives of the victims also threatened to go to the highest possible forum to nail the culprits whose negligence had claimed the life of a middle aged woman on late Sunday night.

The incident had triggered tension in the area. Police personnel had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.

Police said that the victim, Anita Adak (42) was brought to the hospital after she complained of severe pain in her abdomen.

She was admitted to hospital but her condition soon deteriorated. At around Sunday midnight the doctors pronounced her dead.

The relatives burst in anger and ransacked the front office of the nursing home after the news of her death was told to them. The furniture and various utensils were completely damaged in the incident.

Anita's family members said the patient was suffering from gallbladder ailment.

"We informed the nursing staff members that the patient's condition was deteriorating but they turned a deaf ear to our appeal. There was no doctor to attend the patient," a relative of the patient said.

They also alleged that the nursing home did not have basic infrastructure to run a nursing home.

They demanded that the state health department must look into the matter and should carry out investigation to ascertain how many private nursing homes were being operated in the state without proper infrastructure.

Hospital authorities have, however, denied the charge saying that the patient was in serious condition when she was brought to the hospital.

The doctors gave her immediate attention but they were unable to improve her condition.
