M’nagar riots: Panel records statements

The one-man commission probing Muzaffarnagar riots has recorded the statements of officials who were serving during the riots in 2013, police said on Friday.
“The commission on Thursday recorded the statements of then District Magistrate of Saharanpur, A K Singh and then Sub Divisional Magistrate of Khatoli, Narendra Singh” Circle Officer of Budhana, Shailendra Lal said.
The commission will record statements up to January 21 and summon several officers who were serving during the riots, he added.
The one-member judicial inquiry commission of Justice (retd) Vishnu Sahai, former Judge of Allahabad High Court, was constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government in September 13 to probe the Muzaffarnagar violence. Over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 displaced in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in the same month.
