MLA admits bedridden person to hospital

Tarak Das, a resident of Hatgachi area in Howrah has submitted a prayer to the sub-divisional officer of Uluberia appealing for euthanasia after he had become completely bedridden.

Das was the only bread-earner of his family. His father had been paralysed while the elder brother was specially-abled.

His mother has become feeble due to old age and is unable to work. He used to work in a jute mill to earn a living for his family.

He was running the family till he met with an accident. In May 2015, he fell from an elevated place while working inside the jute mill. He suffered injuries on his backbone. He was taken to the Uluberia ESI Hospital and later shifted to Manicktala ESI.

Though, his surgery was conducted in another private hospital.

After the surgery, the victim found that the hospital had carried out surgery somewhere else instead of spinal cord where he had received injuries.

He is now completely bed ridden. His biggest worry is how to run the family where there is none to look after his elderly parents.

Having found no way, Das had written to the Sub-divisional officer of Uluberia and prayed for euthanasia.

According to him it was better killing himself rather than lying on the bed and witnessing his parents and brother slowly embracing death.

After coming to know about the incident the local MLA Pulak Roy took initiative and admitted him to Uluberia Hospital. Roy has assured the victim that he will be alright as there are many good doctors in the state who could easily heal the patient.

He has been undergoing treatment at the hospital.
