Missing woman’s decomposed body recovered from Malda village

Mystery shrouds the death of a 22-year-old woman whose decomposed body was recovered from a village in Malda’s Kaliachak.

Police said that the victim, a third year student of a nearby college was missing since October 15. The local people on Wednesday spotted the body which was lying near a bush and informed the police who in turn reached the spot and recovered the body.

It was later sent to Malda Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The victim’s family members alleged that she was raped and later murdered by the miscreants. Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason of her murder.

The investigating officials are examining whether the victim was raped. Police found several injury marks on her body which lead the officers to believe that there were more than one miscreant involved in the incident.

In the course of the investigation, police came to know that the victim used to look after her father’s business in the area when he visited to other states for the sake of the business. She also used to maintain the accounts of the business.

Police said that the woman left house with some gold jewellery and hard cash of nearly Rs 11,000 on October 15. She later withdrew around Rs nearly Rs 10,000 with her ATM card. As she went missing, her family members conducted a search in other relatives’ house but did not find any trace of her. Her relatives lodged a missing dairy in the Kalichak police station on October 18 following which the police started a probe. But they could not find any trace of the victim.

Her family members later identified the body. Police have recovered her mobile phone and her bag from the place. Police are also investigating if the miscreants had killed the woman following some business rivalry. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident and interrogating some people in this connection so far.

In another incident a private tutor from Baruipur in South 24-Parganas was found dead in his village. Police have started an investigation.
