Missing six-year-old girl’s body recovered from sack in Kandi

A six-year-old girl from Kandi in Murshidabad was abducted and then brutally murdered by some miscreants on Saturday night. The incident triggered tension in the village after her body was spotted by some local people near her house on Sunday morning.

Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder of the girl. The victim, Sushmita Das, a resident of Bagdipara village of Kandi had gone missing on Saturday morning when she was returning home after attending tuition. She was a student of Class I in a nearby school.

The police are not yet sure if the accused had abducted the victim with an intention of demanding a ransom from the victim’s family members or any past rivalry had led to the incident.

Police came to know that the victim’s father is a mason whose financial condition is not so good.

The family members started an extensive search in the nearby areas and also in the relative houses but failed to get any trace of the victim.

They lodged a complaint in the nearby police station on the basis of which the police started a probe. They could not find any trace of the girl.

Some local people found a body wrapped in a sack lying beside a pond which is located just 100 metre away from the house of the victim. After being informed by the local people, the police reached the spot and found that her throat was slit and there were cut marks on various parts of her body. Even the victim’s ear rings were missing.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the incident might have caused due to an old rivalry. The investigating officers are probing if the Das family had any rivalry. Victim’s father told the police that he did not receive any telephone call from anyone. Police are interrogating some local people in this connection.

In another incident, Murshidabad police have recovered the body of a youth whose bullet riddled body was found inside his house at Nabagram area under Kandi police station. Local people first spotted the body lying on the bed inside his house. After being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. 

Police came to know in the course of the investigation that victim’s father was also murdered around 20 years ago. Police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder. They have started a detailed probe into the crime.
