Mishra writes ‘rapists should be treated as terrorists’, sparks row

Delhi Cultural minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday sparked a big controversy by writing in a blog that rapists should be treated as terrorists demanding death penalty for rapists as the only punishment.
Expressing his concern in the increasing rate of crimes, Kapil Mishra in his blog condemned the heinous crime at Bulandshahr gang-rape incident by writing: “…can happen to anyone any day anytime”.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Mishra justified his blog by saying: “Incidents like Bulandshahr and lack of law and order by Delhi Police and issues related to women security pushed me to write this blog. However, this is my personal view.”

“In last one year, 450 minor girls were raped in Capital city of Delhi alone. Half of this country is living in constant fear,” he wrote. I was among those who protested for justice for Gudiya, was out there when we all were fighting for justice for Nibhaya. Has anything changed?” Mishra asked.

“I have been against death penalty generally but I want to say today that Rapists are Terrorists and they should be treated like one. Treat Rapist as Terrorist - Death Penalty must, no age bar should be there. If you are old enough to rape, you should be old enough to be punished like adults. You deserve no sympathy,” he further wrote.

Mishra demanded for exemplary punishment for rapists. In his blog he added: “For example, Parliament should pass a special law for Bulandshahr incident and rapist should be killed publicly; let everyone know how we deal with those who dare to touch our daughters and sisters.” He also went on record saying rapists should be identified and they should be made public.
