Miscreants open fire on Howrah road

Tension escalated at Guha Road near Ghusuri, Howrah after two groups of miscreants got engaged into a brick fight followed by open firing on the road. The incident took place late night on Sunday.
Police suspect that the rival groups got involved into the fight following a scuffle over the ownership of a plot. Police have initiated a probe but are yet to arrest anyone in this connection.

A police officer said that Md Arif had sold a plot to Shakil Ahmed but later, some dispute cropped up when the former allegedly tried to reclaim the plot.

It is learnt that Shakil and his close aides went to the residence of Arif on Sunday night. They had beaten up Mehendi Hassan, security guard of Arif’s house, and passed lewd comments at the women in his house.

Arif’s son Farooq had reached the spot at that time and was accompanied by his friends. As a result, a scuffle broke out between the members of the rival groups which ended with the pelting of bricks at each other.

After the fight, Farooq went inside his house and came out with a gun. He allegedly opened fired in front of Shakil’s house.

People started escaping and within a few minutes, the area wore a deserted look. All the people involved in the incident had fled from the area.

Police, however, got footages from a surveillance camera in which the incident was captured and identified the people after going through the footages and initiated a search for them.
