Miscreants kill police constable in E Midnapore

A police constable was shot dead while another seriously injured when some miscreants open fired at them while they were on duty at Mahishadal in East Midnapore Thursday night. The constable was rushed to Tomluk District Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. 

DIG Midnapore range Vastav Baidya visited the hospital on Thursday night and later visited the spot where the incident took place. 

The victim Nabakumar Hait was on duty at Kapasberia area on National Highway-41 when he spotted some youths moving around with a bag near Kapasberia bridge. When Hait asked them to stop and he came out from the patrolling van, the accused suddenly started hurling bombs at the vehicle and tried to flee from the area. Hait chased them as he thought that the criminals might belong to some terrorists outfit. As he managed to catch one of them, another member of the gang took out a pistol and shot Hait on his head.      

The other police personnel, who were in the patrolling van, rushed to the spot and found Hait lying in a pool of blood. They immediately took him to Tomluk District Hospitals where he was declared dead. A huge contingent of police force is now carrying out a search operation to arrest the accused. Police have recovered the bag containing bombs and also the gun which was used by the criminals. 

Baidya held a meeting with the senior police officials in the districts on the law and order situation in the area. He asked the district police officials to intensify the raids at criminal dens. Meanwhile, TMC MP from Tomluk Subhendu Adhikari visited the victim’s house and assured all necessary help.
