Miscreants attack woman, her father with sharp weapons

A woman and her  father were severely injured when some unidentified miscreants attacked them with sharp weapon at Jawagacha area in Bongoan on Saturday night, police said. 

The incident occurred when Reba Malakar was returning home along with her father Bhola Malakar on a motorcycle. At around 9.30 pm some unidentified miscreants stopped them on their way at Jawagacha. 

They were returning from Bongaon station. The miscreants slashed them with a sharp weapon and fled from the spot. 

The duo fell on the ground and was profusely bleeding. Hearing the victims’ scream, local people rushed to the spot and found them lying on the pool of blood. 

They were taken to Bongaon sub-divisional hospital. Reba was shifted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when her condition deteriorated. 

The injuries of both the victims are stated to be serious. Reba and her father Bhola had received injuries on face and chest. 

Police said that Reba got married to one Gopal Das few years ago. 

For last few months she had engaged in a quarrel with her husband. It was learnt that Reba had allegedly been subjected to mental and physical torture at her in-laws house. 

Reba’s family members also lodged a complaint at police station in this regard. 

Police said they were trying to know whether the incident was a result of a fall out that had taken place between Reba and her husband. 

Police were looking into whether Gopal was anyway involved behind the attack. They have started an investigation. An officer said they were conducting search operation to arrest the culprits. 

The police came to know while interrogating Bhola Malakar in the hospital that Reba had engaged in a quarrel over some issues which are not yet clear to the police. 

Police have started a case on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victims’ family members.
