Minors apprehended for auto theft, stole bikes for joyrides

Two minor boys have been apprehended on charges of stealing two-wheelers for joyrides and later abandoning them in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar area, police said on Thursday.

The police received a tip-off about the two riding a stolen scooty in the I-block area of Karampura. The duo was allegedly conducting a recee in the area to steal another two-wheeler. A police team was formed and a vehicle checking exercise was conducted at strategic points in the area to apprehend the auto lifters.

The police stopped the two juveniles. It was found that the scooty that were riding was stolen, after which the police detained them for questioning. The police recovered six stolen motorcycles at their instance.

“The duo said they stole two-wheelers for joyrides. After that, they would park the vehicles in narrow lanes and fled,” said a senior police officer.

The police said the concerned police stations have been informed about the stolen two-wheelers. Further investigation in the matter was underway, they added.
