Minor girl attempts suicide after gang-rape

A girl tried to kill herself after being raped by some local youth at Jairamkhali in South 24 Parganas. She was rescued by some of her family members. Police started an investigation following her complaints.

Police said that the girl, a student of Class VII was playing Kabaddi on Monday afternoon.

The assailants abducted her from the ground and took her to a deserted place.

Bakkur Shekh, Kochon Shekh and Saifuddin Shekh – the accused took her away from the place saying they wanted to discuss something  an important with her regarding her relation with a local boy.

These youth allegedly gang-raped the girl there and escaped the spot.

The family members started to search for the girl, who was missing since the evening.

The police found her lying in that deserted place. She was taken to a hospital.

But fearing the face loss and derogatory comments by the villagers, the girl tried suicide consuming poison after returning home on Tuesday.

But she was timely rescued by her sister-in-law. Police are yet to arrest those culprits.

However, in almost a similar incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped by some youth at Burdwan’s Simlan village. The victim is now admitted in the district hospital.

Police said that the girl had gone to a village fair which was arranged by some local club. The youth had also gone to the fair and they started to pursue the girl.

“Suddenly those youth pounced on the girl and overpowered her. They took her to a tent at the fair ground. She was gang-raped there,” said a police officer.

The Burdwan district police started an investigation.

“We have arrested a boy who was in that gang. But he is a minor boy. We are discussing the matter to the legal professionals. He might be sent to the juvenile court,” the officer added.

Meanwhile, in the case in Jairamkhali of South 24 Parganas, the police are in search of Bakkur Shekh, Kochon Shekh and Saifuddin Shekh. Their houses were raided.

“We have got a lead that those youth could have escaped to Bihar,” said an investigating officer.
