Minor fire in Nirman Bhawan, none hurt

A fire broke out in Nirman Bhawan which houses a number of central ministries and allied departments here on Thursday but there was no casualty or injury.

The blaze that broke at around 10.30 am on the second floor, housing the Urban Development Ministry, destroyed an air conditioner, a xerox machine, a wodden table and some documents. Officials said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards the building complex, detected the fire and smoke billowing from the cable duct on the second floor and the securitymen on duty raised an alarm. ‘Nine fire tenders of Delhi fire service, an ambulance and two PCR vans reached the spot. The fire was extinguished at about 11.15 hours,’ the CISF said.

CISF constable Majendra Jarika spotted the fire and a quick reaction team of 25 securitymen rushed to the spot. The fire was spotted in an air conditioner placed in room number 220 of ‘C’ wing of the Bhawan. Two people trapped inside were also rescued, the force said.

‘Timely response by CISF team prevented a major fire like the one that had broken out at Secretariat building in Mumbai on June 22, 2012,’ a CISf statement added.
