Minister urges Bihar to give interest-free loan to farmers

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Saturday said that Centre has started a number of schemes for the welfare of farmers and agricultural sector. “The Bihar government should avail this scheme. It may be Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme or Pradhanmantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana – all of these schemes will pave the way for growth in the agricultural sector as well as farmers,” Singh stressed.

The minister said that Bihar government is supposed to impart relief regarding the agricultural debt on the farmers, adding that farmers of Bihar are bestowed debt with the 7 per cent interest, out of this, 3 per cent interest relief is extended by the Centre.

“Like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the Bihar government should also relax the 4 per cent loan interest norm and move ahead by providing interest free loan to farmers,” Singh said at a press conference.
