Minister rejects complaints of lapses

Rubbishing complaints of lapses and corruption in the conduct of 35th National Games currently in progress in Kerala, sports minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has congratulated the way the government had organised the event. “The most proud moment in the conduct of the Games is the applause given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a message to the state,” Radhakrishnan told reporters here.

“The Games was conducted successfully due to the sportsman spirit approach of the state and this attitude was necessary,” Modi had pointed out, he said. Claiming that the Games arrangements were excellent, Radhakrishnan said Kerala’s pride has been lifted at the national level with its successful conduct. There was no complaint from any of participating sports persons and officials, he said.

“Unnecessary row over the conduct was triggered by certain persons through press statements,” he said on the charges of flaws in the arrangements of the Games levelled by opposition CPI(M) led LDF, BJP and some Congressmen also. The government has also decided to auction all the materials purchased and also the Games Village set up here, he said, adding that the amount received in this regard would be added to National Games Secretariat account. Radhakrishnan also maintained that government was ready for any type of probe into alleged lapses and irregularities after the Games.

The Cabinet had already taken a decision to conduct the audit of the Games account by Local Audit Fund department within 45 days. “Government has nothing to hide in this matter,” he said. The National Games which started on January 31, would conclude on February 14.
