Mini-truck collides with truck, catches fire after hitting roadside tree

A vegetable loaded truck collided with a mini-truck on National Highway 31 on Tuesday morning. The mini- truck turned on its side on the road. Later, it caught on fire. The vegetable loaded truck lost its control after the collision and rammed into a tree trunk.

Police said that the driver of the mini-truck managed to save himself from there, just before the vehicle caught fire. He was taken to a hospital. He was admitted there in a critical condition.

However, the driver of the vegetable loaded truck fortunately had a narrow escape from heavy injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Later he was discharged from there.

“We’ve arrested the accused vegetable loaded truck driver. We’ll also arrest the mini-truck driver after his release from the hospital,” said the police officer.

However, in another incident, fire broke out in a market in front of Malbazar SDO office late on Monday night. At least 12 shops were gutted there. Five fire tenders rushed to the spot, but could not save the destruction of those shops. The shop keepers, who reached the spot that night, only saw their shops reduced to ashes in front of them.

Some of those shop keepers suspected a foul play here. The locals join handed with the fire brigade to extinguish the fire. “The property of worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted. The traders there demanded compensation to the local administration,” said a police officer.

“We have demanded compensation to the administration. Most of us are the sole bread earners of our families. We’ll not able to run our family. How do we gather food for our children,” rued a trader.
