Metro volunteers felicitated

Delhi Metro on Thursday felicitated eight volunteers for their services in spreading civic sense among commuters. According to Metro officials, they have identified around 600 volunteers across the capital under the Metro Citizens Forum programme. The volunteers, mostly professionals, educate commuters about manners while travelling and standing on platforms. ‘I tell people about Metro rules, cleanliness at station and standing in queue while waiting for a train,’ Y P Vaid, 50, who works in an advertising agency said. Vaid, along with seven other volunteers, was felicitated at Patel Chowk Metro station by Delhi Metro chief Mangu Singh. Businessman Vibhor Garg, 32, another volunteer, said, ‘I tell people not to cross the yellow line at metro station platform while a train is arriving. I also guide the passengers not to stand at a coach’s gate while others are getting down or boarding it,’ said Garg. Some volunteers complained about people behaving rudely with them. ‘Some times passengers pass comments and ignore what I say...no one wants to stand in queue while a train enters the platform,’ said Rajesh Nanda, 35, another volunteer who runs a business in central Delhi.
