Metro to introduce 22 additional rakes

There is good news for Kolkatans as the Metro railways have decided to introduce 22 additional Metro rakes from this month.

This will increase the frequency of trains and the commuters will be able to avail altogether 300 services between Noapara and New Garia per day instead of existing 278 services.

According to a senior official of Metro railways, the new services will be introduced from this month. Though the official refused to mention the date when the new rakes will be pressed into service. The introduction of 22 new rakes will be of great help to the commuters who travel by Metro. With huge number of passengers travelling by Metro railways, the trains are often overcrowded in the rush hours. Sometimes the doors of the trains cannot be closed due to them being overcrowded. Even during Pujas the Metro railways face difficult times managing crowd.

If the frequency time of the trains is reduced, it will immensely benefit the passengers. As Metro service is the lifeline for the city dwellers, a huge number of people depend on the service on regular basis. People can reach their destinations in the shortest time.

The Wi Fi services are also in cards. The Metro railway official believes that they will be able to introduce the much awaited Wi Fi services in all stations soon. They are not yet ready to divulge the time when the service will be available. Metro railways earlier announced that they would not only provide Wi Fi services but the commuters will be able to talk over their phones inside the tunnel. Till now, the mobile services get disconnected once the trains enter into the tunnel. It has also been decided to set up toilets in various stations in a pilot basis so that the senior passengers travelling in Metro do not face any problems during their journey.
