Meet Ajay: An MNC exec & a rape accused

In August 2014, an FIR was filed against Ajay Bhardwaj, an MNC executive and the son of Gurgaon’s former Deputy Commissioner R P Bhardwaj stating that a woman, with whom Ajay was in a live-in relation for seven years, was harassed and raped by him. Ajay and the woman also had two children out of their relation. In her FIR, the woman alleged that Ajay had promised to get married to her but eventually didn’t. 

According to sources, the victim had accused Ajay of offering her an amount as alimony to buy a house for not marrying her.

This case came to light when a meeting was held between the Director General of Police, Gurgaon, Yashpal Singhal, the Commissioner of Police Navdeep Singh Virk, the Joint Commissioner of Police Bharti Arora and the Information Officer.

“I faced a lot of interference in my inquiry of the rape case. I was threatened that I would be asked to leave or transferred if I didn’t work according to Virk”, Bharti Arora, Joint commissioner of Police said.  

She had also written to the Haryana DGP, Yashpal Singhal, on Monday (September 28, 2015) demanding a high-level-probe into the matter, including a CBI inquiry in to the wrongful interference 

of Virk in the alleged rape case.  

In his reply, Virk also wrote back to Singhal, saying that Arora is adamant on saving the accused (Ajay) as his sister (Chetna) is known to the Joint CP.

Sources also say that the accused and the victim had tied the knot in private. For proof, the victim has submitted pictures of the ceremony that took place in their residence at Ardee City in front of close relatives.

Ajay was booked for rape (376) and his family members for criminal intimidation (506) under 

the Indian Penal Code in August 2014.
