Meerut police approach Kolkata police to interrogate ISI agents

The Meerut police have approached Kolkata Police to interrogate the three ISI agents who were arrested from Garden Reach area on November 30,  2015.

A team comprising of two senior police officers from Meerut came to the city on Tuesday and held a discussion with the top brass of the city police.  All three of them will be taken to Meerut for interrogation. Interestingly, the officers of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police have urged co-operation of the Meerut Police to interrogate the ISI agent Mohammad Eizaz alias Kalam, whom they had arrested two days before the arrests in Kolkata. STF of Kolkata police had arrested Irshad Ansari, his son Asfaq Ansari and their relative Mohammad Jahangir. The trio use to work as contractual labourers in Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE).

The investigation had revealed that they used to collect details and photographs of warship of the Indian Navy built in the shipyard and passed those to their counterparts in Pakistan.  At the same time they also used to pass information about different important installations in the city and its adjoining areas. The trio also had connection with Mohammad Eizaz alias Kalam, who was arrested on similar charges from Meerut Cantt area when he was heading towards Delhi.

Top brass of both Meerut and Kolkata Police had discussion and shared information about the ISI agents. But, according to an officer in the city police, Meerut police wants to interrogate those arrested in Kolkata to verify the statement given by

Eizaz. Eizaz, who is a Pakistani national, had a fake voter’s identify card and investigations have revealed that Irshad had helped him to get the fake voter’s identity card when he entered India via Bangladesh.

Irshad, who was a contractual labourer in GRSE, used to frequently visit some places in South 24-Parganas. Eizaz was introduced to Irshad in a hideout in South 24-Parganas by Pravin, who is a Bangladeshi national and had helped Eizaz to enter India. Sources said that the top brass of both Meerut and Kolkata Police are now chalking out a plan to ascertain whether any more ISI operatives are still functioning from West Bengal and Meerut.

In a bid to identify the agents of the Pakistani intellegence agency the police need to interrogate all four of them face-to-face. Recently, the police officers have heard about Pravin’s movement in a village in the bordering areas. It is suspected that the ISI is again trying to place an agent here, the police are trying to identify Pravin and arrest him. They would also take the help of the police stations in the bordering areas and the Border Security Force (BSF) if needed in this connection.
