‘Medico-legal dictionary and Jurisprudence’ launched

Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Manjula Chellur on Saturday stressed the need for more awareness on medical jurisprudence with many cases of medico-legal nature coming before the courts. Releasing a rare publication ‘Medico-Legal Dictionary and Jurisprudence’ at a function here, Justice Chellur hoped that the book would throw light on many grey areas helping the practitioners in legal and medical profession.

“Medical jurisprudence is getting importance now-a-days with the terms like DNA, brain mapping and lie detection etc coming into picture in many cases,” Justice Chellur said.

She believed that the book would come to immense help in the administration of justice.

Speaking on the occasion, former Chief Justice of India, Altamas Kabir lauded the initiative taken by the author for the benefit of the practitioners in medical and legal profession, research scholars as well as students pursuing their studies in these disciplines.“The book not only gives etymological meaning of every medical and legal term, but also goes into their legal analysis,” Justice Kabir said.Authored by a senior advocate of Calcutta High Court Tapas Gan Choudhury and published by Inkdia Books, the 720-page dictionary was praised by many legal luminaries.
