MCD councillor’s daughter kills self

A 20-year-old daughter of a Delhi municipal councillor committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan here, police said on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Preeti, the youngest daughter of Choudhary Balraj, the councillor from Ward No. 262 of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, hanged herself inside her house in Yamuna Vihar area on Thursday afternoon.

Police said Preeti, her elder sister and mother were present at the house when she committed suicide. “She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from her possession,” said a police official.

Preeti, who is survived by her parents, two elder sisters and two brothers, was pursuing BA first year course from Delhi University. Police said that the incident was reported late afternoon when her family made a PCR call regarding her death under mysterious circumstances. Police found her hanging by a dupatta which was tied to the ceiling fan. The cops took the body to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

According to police officials, there was no suicide note found. According to the Investigating Officer: “There is no foul play and it is a simple suicide case. However, we are investigating the matter to ascertain the cause of suicide and what forced her to take the extreme step.”
