Mayawati demands ban on RSS, VHP; justifies caste rallies

Despite theBSP forming government thrice with the the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, former chief minister Mayawati demanded a ban on RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal for spreading communal hatred in the country. The demand came in response to the Supreme Court directive to ban caste-based rallies in the state – which the BSP has held in the largest number.

‘The RSS and its frontal organisations spread communal hatred. If caste-based rallies are against the constitution, the RSS spreads religious hatred which is also anti-constitutional,’ the BSP supremo said while addressing a press conference. She announced that her party would continue to hold rallies in the name of Sarv Samaj with an aim to end disparities within society.
Incidentally, the BSP had formed government thrice with the support of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. It is the same Mayawati who had shared dais with Narendra Modi earlier.

‘HC has said caste rallies were against the Constitution but inciting religious hatred is also against the Constitution. Will the court ban the RSS, VHP and Barjang Dal for working against the Constitutional norms?,’ she questioned. She said now her party will hold ‘Sarva Samaj Bhai-chara Committee’ meeting in place of caste rallies.

She further said the BSP was doing social work but some people with vested interests were trying to derail its effort. ‘BSP is the only political party which holds such meeting and there is no political interest of the party in it. Our only goal is to  create a sarva samaj and it will continue to do so till the disparity faced by the Schedule Caste/ Scheduled Tribes and Backward Castes ends,’ she said.
