Mastermind behind Rs 1.15cr heist nabbed

Delhi Police arrested the mastermind behind the dacoity of Rs 1.15 crore at a dry fruits wholesale shop in Tilak Bazar area of West Delhi. The main accused has been identified as Milak Raj (48).

According to the police, the incident took place at around 6 pm on December 9 2014, when a gang of armed robbers entered the complainant’s shop (Gaurav), out of which four of them held the complainant and his employees at gun point and robbed money worth Rs 1.15 crore.

Accordingly, a case of robbery was registered at the Lahori Gate police station under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms Act. The Crime Branch later arrested seven accused persons who are — Roop Singh, Subash, Mohan Lal, Manish, Roshan, Vinod and Sabir.

However, the mastermind, Milak Raj, was still absconding and a reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on his arrest.

According to the police, they got a tip-off that the main accused Raj was hiding in the Madipur area and based on this information teams laid a trap near the Madipur Metro station and arrested him.

During sustained interrogation, one of the accused persons revealed that the gang intended to rob a rich merchant. Milak’s son, Manish, did a thorough research on the complainant’s business. 

On the day of robbery, Roop Singh, Subhash, Mohan Lal and Manish came to the shop armed with country-made pistols and a knife. After committing the robbery, they divided the money. 

Manish gave his share to his father who fled away to Ahmedabad and stayed there for six months.
