Manipuri student kills self in Hindu hostel

A Manipuri student committed suicide by strangling himself with a mobile phone charger at his hostel room in Delhi University’s Hindu College on Sunday morning. Police officials said they received a PCR call at 5:30 am about the incident. This is the second incident of suicide in the reputed college hostel in less than six months.

‘The body of the deceased, Chang Than Kirpa Singh, 21, was spotted in room 175 of the hostel by his room mate when he came back on Sunday morning. In a two-page suicide note, Singh blamed himself for the death,’ said a police official.

‘Singh used the wire of a mobile phone charger to strangulate himself. He was in a pool of blood when police rushed him to the hospital,’ said the police.

According to the police officials, the suicide note reportedly said he was not keeping well and was fed up with life. He claimed he had been a ‘disobedient son’. ‘I am fed up with my life and going to take an extreme step. I am a disobedient son,’ read the suicide note.

Singh was pursuing graduation in Music Honours from the college. The deceased’s father told the police that he was taking medication for depression. ‘He was such a creative boy, I am shocked to hear about his death,’ said a student of Hindu College.
