Manipuri nurse physically assaulted by drunk cabbie

A nurse, who works at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital, was allegedly physically assaulted by a drunk taxi driver inside the hospital premises on July 13 evening, police said on Wednesday.
The nurse, identified as Kiran Bala, is a native of Manipur and has been working at the hospital for the past few years.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as one Amit Kumar, who is a taxi driver and operates from a taxi stand near the hospital. On the evening of July 13, he was allegedly drunk and was creating ruckus inside the hospital premises. When the nurse tried to stop him, he hurled abuses and then held her by her throat. The other staff of the hospital rushed to the nurse’s rescue and freed her from Kumar’s grip that had almost choked her to death.

Kumar has been booked under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code, said Vijay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi). However, Kumar was yet to be arrested till Wednesday afternoon.
