Mango trader stabbed to death in his own garden

A 36-year-old Mango trader was stabbed to death in his mango garden at Roypara in Malda. The body of the victim, Chandan Das was found in the garden on Thursday morning. Someone had hit him on his head with something heavy, said a police officer adding that it had resulted to his
death at the spot.

Police said that Das used to go to his garden every night after having dinner. Instead of depending on any security personnel, he had decided to guard his garden himself. According to his family members he used to be in the garden every night for the past five months. But he never faced any trouble.

His murder had left everyone clueless as he did not even have any rivalry with anyone. A senior police officer said that they have come to know after speaking to some other traders, that a few local miscreants had asked the victim to give all the mango trees on lease to them. Das had turned down their proposal. This could be the reason behind the murder.

The police questioned some youth from the locality to get details of the miscreants who had asked Das to give the mango trees on lease. Police have conducted raids at various places but are yet to arrest anyone in this connection.

In another incident, a partly decomposed beheaded body was found in sack in a paddy field at Uluberia in Howrah on Thursday morning. The police were informed after some local people got foul smell. The police opened the sack to find the body. It has been sent for an autopsy.

Police suspect that it could be the body of a boy of aged between12 to 19. The police have not ruled out the possibility of black magic behind the crime. The police are trying to find out whether anyone
had gone missing from any of the nearby villages in the recent time.
