Mango festival in city to start from Friday, 110 varieties to be seen

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is organising a three day ‘Mango Festival’ to promote plantation of mango samplings during the monsoon season and also to increase awareness among the youth about various mango varieties.

Apart from cultural programmes, a contest ‘Eat Mango. Get Prize’ is also being organized as part of the Festival.
‘We will also provide samplings of high-quality varieties which could be planted in gardens. The objective is to integrate the festival with plantation and environment conservation,’ GDA spokesperson said.

The festival is being organised by GDA in association with the district administration, Ghaziabad municipal corporation and the police department. The Festival will be inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Yadav, vice-chairman of GDA at 7.00 pm on Friday in Swaran Jayanti Park in Ghaziabad and will end on Sunday.

‘We have requested the district magistrates of neighbouring districts- Meerut, Saharanpur, Hapur, Buland Shahar and Gautam Buddh Nagar to send their mango farmers to participate in the festival with their mango varieties,’ he added. He further added that over 110 varieties of the mango are expected tobe seen at the festival.
