Maneka hits back at Priyanka
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Maneka Gandhi hit back at Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka for saying that her son Varun was on the wrong path. Maneka said, ‘If he has gone astray while serving the country, the country will decide.’
Her remarks came in after Priyanka Gandhi had attacked her estranged cousin Varun saying that the BJP leader had chosen a wrong path and needed to be led in the right direction. ‘He (Varun Gandhi) is definitely from my family, he is my brother. But he has gone astray. When a young one in the family chooses the wrong path, then the elders show them the right path, the right way. I urge all of you to show my brother the right path,’ Priyanka said while addressing party workers in Sultanpur on Saturday. Priyanka Gandhi, along with her mother, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, had accompanied her brother and party vice-presindet Rahul Gandhi in Amethi as he filed his nomination, seeking a third consecutive term from the Lok Sabha constituency.
Varun is contesting from the adjacent Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Currently he is a sitting MP from Pilbhit.
Also, it was earlier this month that Varun praised Rahul’s work in his constituency Amethi. Addressing a public meeting, Varun said that Sultanpur must replicate the development work done by Rahul. However, I cannot give that example as I haven’t seen the work at the ground level,’he had said. After which Maneka had advised him to refrain from commenting on things he did not knew about.
