Man who shot himself at Rajiv Chowk Metro station, arrested

The Delhi Police on Sunday have arrested 24-year-old <g data-gr-id="22">Shibesh</g> Kumar Pal, who  shot and injured himself on the busy Rajiv Chowk Metro station on Thursday night.

The arrest comes after the Delhi police issued notices to the Central Industrial Security  Force (CISF) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Pal has been arrested for entering the Metro station premises with a weapon. He had boarded a train from the Chandni Chowk Metro station.

Pal was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after he shot himself. He had suffered a bullet injury in the shoulder. He was discharged on Saturday evening, after which the police took him to the Yamuna Bank police station. The police also called his sister Geeta, who was interrogated.

“We have arrested <g data-gr-id="21">Shibesh</g> Kumar Pal,” said Jitendra Mani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro). A case has been registered against Pal under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and the Delhi Metro Act.

Pal, a resident of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, along with his sister Geeta, fooled security personnel at the Chandni Chowk Metro station around 6.35 pm on Thursday.

The man had allegedly kept the bag with a gun near the place where the tokens are distributed. To check security at Metro stations, he carried the gun and hid it in his bag. He told the police that he had overheard people in his village about a possible terror strike at Metro stations in the national Capital on October 2 (Friday). CISF sources said they have deduced how the man pulled it off by analysing CCTV footage.
