Man strangles girlfriend in Old Delhi hotel

A man has been arrested for allegedly killing   his girlfriend in a guesthouse in Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid area on Saturday, police said.

According to the police, the victim had been putting marriage pressure on the accused. Fed up of her constant pressure, the accused, identified as Ajam, allegedly eliminated her, they said.

The police said the duo went to a guesthouse in Jama Masjid on Saturday. They told the attendant that they were a couple and Ajam handed over his ID proof to the hotel manager. Ajam’s ID cad revealed that he was a native of Panipat, police said. In the hotel log book, Ajam had identified the woman as Shabnam, his wife.

Sources said after the couple entered the room, Ajam came out within two hours and did not return to the hotel. He even did not lock the room.In the evening, the hotel staff found Shabnam lying dead in the bathroom. She was found strangled with her dupatta (scarf). The hotel staff informed the police, who took her to a hospital, where she was declared  brought dead.

The police found that the woman was not Ajam’s wife but his girlfriend. Ajam told the police that Shabnam had been building pressure on him to get married. He added a heated argument broke out between the two in the hotel on Saturday, during which he allegedly strangled her.
